Locksmith in the Regiones of Cancun

Arrival time: 20 to 35 minutes, depending on the Región.

The Regiones are the part of Cancun that does not appear in any brochure. Beyond the Supermanzanas, running west and south from the centre, they are numbered residential districts — Región 200, 235, 260 and dozens more — where most of the people who work in the hotels and restaurants actually live.

Visitors end up here more often than they expect. Long-stay rentals are a fraction of Hotel Zone prices, and the apartments are ordinary flats in ordinary buildings rather than resort residences. If you are staying in Cancun for a month rather than a week, there is a fair chance this is where you are.

Navigation is the genuine difficulty. Región numbering does not run in sequence, streets loop back on themselves, and house numbers frequently do not follow the order of the street. A postal address here is close to useless to a driver who has not been to that exact block before. What works is a cross street plus a landmark: a shop, a school, a church, a football pitch. Our technicians are from this city and navigate the way everyone here does, by reference.

The housing is older and denser than the Supermanzanas, and the locks show it. Standard cylinders, many of them fifteen or twenty years old, in doors that have moved with the seasons. So the work skews toward worn mechanisms and keys that stopped turning rather than tourists locked out of holiday flats — and toward small businesses, which in the Regiones are frequently the front room of a house with a roller shutter over it.

Prices sit at the lower end of the range here, for the plain reason that the jobs are usually standard cylinders in accessible doors. There is no distance charge anywhere in the Regiones; they are well inside the municipality.

Arrival is twenty to thirty-five minutes depending on which Región and on the time of day. Shift changes at the hotels put a lot of traffic on the main avenues twice a day, which is the main thing that slows us down out here.

Most requested here

  • House & condo lockouts

Shut out of an apartment, a condo, a villa or a hotel room. We open it without damaging the door, at any hour.

  • Lock changes & rekeying

New lock, or the same lock rekeyed so old keys stop working. For moves, break-ins and between guests.

  • Key copies & duplicates

Spare keys cut while you wait, including the ones hardware stores get wrong. Cheaper than a lockout, by a lot.
